Today - Tuesday, July 26, 2011 - is the day that Falling in Reverse, the new band of the infamous ex-Escape the Fate vocalist Ronnie Radke, drops their first album, The Drug in Me is You. And I, as a former Ronnie fangirl, am expected to say I love the thing.
Of course, I do. It wasn't exactly what we were expecting, I'm sure. Still, I quite like it. I must admit that it's pretty damn catchy.
Well, here we go. A crappy track by track breakdown of The Drug in Me is You, as done by me - Tenley.
Yeah - I don't think I'm ever going to work for Alternative Press magazine (I'm not saying I did in the first place, though. I'm too young to contemplate work choices, yet.). I suck harder than a slut at semi- reviewing. Oh well. I can still be a mortician.
Track One: Raised by Wolves
It was the first single that sent thousands of fangirls squealing, no doubt. I hate to admit that I was one of them. I remember first hearing it: It was the day before I left for Mexico, so I rushed to get it onto my phone last minute. I remember sighing, because we'd (my dear bestie, Mira and I) been longing to hear a certain Mr. Radke's voice again.
Track Two: Tragic Magic
Without a doubt my favorite song on this entire album. It left me giggling and stupidly clapping to myself. Why? You have heard it, right? I think that makes it obvious.
First off, there's the beginning. His declaration of "I'm back!" to that laugh from the Epitaph trailer that left my lovely MJ swooning. The lyrics always get to me. The stab at Escape the Fate (which seems to be a rather common theme throughout, minus Good Girls Bad Guys), the lalalalas, the "you take a picture of me/ everytime you get a haircut"...
Sure, the lalala part makes them sound like fucking 16 year old stoner kids, but what the hell? Ronald was a stoner kids, was he not? And for this song, Ronnie Radke can be my fucking hero.
Track Three: The Drug in Me is You
Single number two. Contains my favorite question to ask people and confuse the hell out of them.
"If we are born to die and we all die to live, then what's the point of living life if it just contradicts?"
'Nuff said.
Track Four: I'm Not a Vampire
I do a little jazz hand thing when I find songs catchy. This is one of the songs I find catchy. I must say, nice vomiting noise in the song. Spectacular. Phenomenal. Fantastic. I'm running out of words to go along my sarcastic little rant there...
But can you imagine Ronnie Radke all sparkled up? Though, the second he starts to do his hair like Edward, I'm out.
Track Five: Good Girls Bad Guys
Reminiscent of "Situations" isn't it? Just good and sexy fun, right? "I wanna kiss your lips, the one between your hips"
Yet another little chuckle there. Mmm hmm...
Track Six: Pick Up the Phone
This is Mira's (in case you forgot, my best and only friend in this cruel world) favorite song by Falling in Reverse. The boy can speak fast, so I've learned. And I would sing along and everything, but I fail. I fail.
Great song, though.
Track Seven: Don't Mess With Ouija Boards
I never knew how to say "Ouija" before this. Still am a little confused, but almost positive of how to pronounce this.
Anyways, it seems like what should've been the Guillotine: Part 2. The better one, because while This War is Ours may be one of my favorite songs, I prefer Ronnie's voice. Personally, I love the lyrics in the beginning of the song.
Track Eight: Sink or Swim
It's the one I've listened to non-stop, but always seem to forget. But I do remember something about life being a bitch. Oh how life is a bitch, Ronnie. More so for him, of course. I'm just from a little town with some personal issues. Nothing like prison time for this girl.
Track Nine: Caught Like a Fly
This just seems like a huge "fuck you". And it even seems like it goes a tad bit too far when speaking of the grandfather and this line right here: "You have left my heart black and blue/ Just like your father did to you"
But the part where he goes "I will have slept with the girl that you loved most" did get a chuckle from me.
Also, it had a rather carnival-like feel to it (obviously). I can already see the scary clowns and a seductive little psychic, eh? Then again, all clowns are pretty scary...
Track Ten: Goodbye Graceful
It's my least favorite song. Personally, I'm not huge on Ronnie's screaming. But, like he screamed "I wrote this song to make you smile".
It worked.
Track Eleven: The Westerner
Last but not least, The Day I Left the Womb: Part Two. Just as heart-wrenching in the beginning... But with a little more ego, of course. While I like the feel of the first part, Ronnie gets to be a little arrogant bastard (in the nicest way) by the middle of it. I'm not saying I disliked it. In fact, it's one of my favorites. Just tone down on the cockiness, and we'll be good.
